Heritage/Henley Golf Course

Ecological restoration of extensive riparian floodplain, billabong and wetland complex on the mid Yarra River at Wonga Park in Melbourne. This was one of our earliest sites and features some of our most well established plantings. This project involved designing species lists, collecting local seed, propagating, planting and maintaining over 700,000 plants including around 100 species of trees, grasses, shrubs and aquatic plants.

What our client said about us...

"In planning the revegetation of the water bodies on the Heritage Golf and Country Club, Australian Ecosystems modeled their work on one of the last remaining intact wetlands in the mid Yarra Valley.

The result has been a system of wetlands that treats stormwater before it enters the river, the creation of habitat which has attracted a wide variety of native wildlife with over 80 species being recorded and the creation of an environment which provides opportunities for education, relaxation and enjoyment for both our residents and visitors.

Dr David Kemp, while Federal Minister for the Environment and Heritage, has commended this work stating " monthly water quality testing at St John's Golf Course has shown water discharged into the Yarra River is of a higher quality than before due to pollutant traps and wetland vegetation filtering."
