Chirnside Drain receives a high load of sediment and nutrient from Chirnside Park, a growing urban area in the Yarra catchment. This project involved collaboration with Melbourne Water and Max Bright and Sons Earthmoving, who constructed a series of wetlands and stabilized riparian channel on the project. Australian Ecosystems seed collected, propagated, planted and maintained over aquatic and terrestrial plants for this project. This system provides a significant nutrient removal function, improving water quality before it enters the Heritage Golf Course wetlands, (another Australian Ecosystems project – see project map), and then discharging into the Yarra River.
