Austrak Business Park is a large industrial park that has been built in Craigieburn.
This park has extensive hard surface areas, largely because of the factory roofs and this causes large volumes of stormwater runoff in heavy rain events.
The industrial park has a drainage system that diverts to a large retarding basin and wetland complex.
This system is designed to retain and treat peak flows to protect the Merri Creek system from large pulses of polluted stormwater.
Australian Ecosystems propagated and planted around 140,000 plants on this site which is forming up as an important habitat site with a good diversity of aquatic plants across ephemeral, shallow marsh, deep marsh and open water zones.
This photograph above shows turbid sediment laden water entering the wetland complex at the top of photo and progressively improving in quality before discharging at the center of the photo.
