In 2002 Australian Ecosystems became involved in a campaign to protect important Powerful Owl habitat in the Wombat Forest at Trentham near Daylesford. This area of forest was threatened by logging operations.

The Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) is Australia’s largest species of owl and is now in decline and listed as vulnerable.

The Powerful Owl habitat conservation campaign lasted for several months and eventually came to a successful conclusion with the protection of the forest habitat as a reserve.
