Here is a brief introduction to some of our key contacts.
Brendan Condon - Managing Director
Brendan has been a keen environmentalist for many years, working in
the field of environmental restoration for the past 14 years. During the
1990's he ran programmes with young offenders restoring the creeks and
waterways around Melbourne. In 1995 he began specializing in wetland
restoration work with Damien Cook and in 1997 he established the Australian
Ecosystems Nursery (then Wetland Ecosystems) at Carrum. Brendan has a
particular interest in social justice, environmental sustainability and
development.

Damien Cook - Mangaing Director
Damien Cook is a restoration ecologist with a keen interest in plant
and frog taxonomy, wetland processes and geomorphology and the processes
which lead to the degradation of natural ecosystems and how these can be
reversed. He has studied natural history for over 20 years and has worked as
a ecologist, project manager and environmental educator for the last 15
years.

David Carew - Nursery Manager
David completed a degree in Horticulture in 1993 and has since gained wide experience in the horticulture industry and natural resource management. Prior to working for Australian Ecosystems he worked in management roles in both large scale native plant production nurseries and smaller specialist plant nurseries. He has been centrally involved in managing the design and construction process at the new Australian Ecosystems Nursery. David is a committed environmentalist who looks forward to raising the profile of wetlands and implementing innovative ecological approaches to land use problems and arresting land degradation throughout Australia.

Alistair Ripper – Marketing Manager
Alistair completed an Associate Diploma in Applied Science Horticulture in 1992 and is currently completing his Degree. Prior to joining Australian Ecosystems he has worked as a landscape contractor, as a sales manager in an advanced tree nursery and for Treemax (environmental products) as marketing and sales manager. His central role in AE is to promote the range of services the company offers and to liaise with industry groups.

Heidi Hopkins – Nursery Supervisor
Heidi has a Bachelor in Applied Science Horticulture and worked for the Institute of Horticultural Development as a research assistant while at university. Heidi has worked for Australian Ecosystems since completing her studies.

Kate Bennets – Botanical Consulant
Kate has a Bachelor of Science (Geographical Ecology and Botany) and over seven years experience working as a botanist in south-east Australia. Kate has managed a range of botanical and conservation based projects during her professional employment and has won a number of awards for doing so. Kate’s role in Australian Ecosystem is to assist with consulting and undertake botanical surveys.

Rustem Upton - Site Manager/Human Resources Manager
Rustem has studied and worked in the natural resource and revegetation industry since 1996 and has extensive plant identification and establishment skills. His knowledge of the natural environment assists Australian Ecosystems to maintain quality in the projects we undertake. Rustem is a Senior Site Manager at Australian Ecosystems and is also responsible for addressing the company’s human resource needs. He is a sitting member of the OH&S committee, and undertakes staff recruitment and induction, maintains staff welfare, and coordinates staff rostering.

Keri Whitelaw - Administration Manager
Keri has an Advanced Diploma in Accounting and is currently studying off campus for her degree. Keri has been with us since Oct 2000 and originally started consulting to us on a part-time basis she now works for us on a full-time basis. She looks after Accounts Receivable/Payable, Payroll, Order processing/confirmations, Financial reporting and she sits on the OH&S committee.
