From the AILA web site: "In 2004, Zoo's Victoria and Werribee Open Range Zoo embarked on an innovative scheme for the Hippo Marsh Exhibit that delivers a unique experience of Hippos in a landscape thematically representing the Okavango Delta of Botswana. The project reflects a new approach in the world of zoological design and includes a unique merging of constructed ecology, engineering and design. Key elements being the exhibit pools, filtration wetlands and treatment systems for Kubu River Hippos'.
This significant land management project not only challenged the traditional form of a Hippos exhibit, but the whole way it presents the critical issues to the public, engages with the visitor, cares for it's constituents, and most importantly establishes a new approach to 'sustainability' within the exhibit."

The rolling hilly terrain takes on, in part, the character of a linked collection of large and small amphitheatres while also in part there are views of Mount Macedon and the local golf course.
Development considerations meant it had to remove 62 trees. Consequently, the law told DFC to meet the required replacement ratio by planting in the order of 30,000 trees. Instead, DFC put in 60,000.

Sanctuary Lakes Resort by Links Group Holdings is on the site of a former saltworks, which as a by-product of the water management regimes of the saltworks, created a habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Approximately 50% of the original site has been gifted to the state of Victoria as a nature sanctuary of world significance and the remaining 50% was reclaimed and reworked to result in a lake based, golf course inclusive, revegetated housing estate with effective architectural controls to maintain an urban form sympathetic to its environment.

Seagrove, which is just outside the township of Cowes at Phillip Island, sets a whole new benchmark for development in the area which, unfortunately lacks proper planning and controls in much of the surrounding projects.
The latest in sustainable and environmentally sensitive principles have been employed and this, plus other features earned the applause of the judges.

Tenterfield is a 108ha masterplanned development at Burnside Heights which reflects VicUrban's philosophy of providing sustainable developments of affordable housing for prosperous and successful communities.
Its central spine is an integrated wetland linear landscape that contributes to one third of the development being dedicated to open space. When completed the $125 million project will provide homes for some 3000 people.
Already surrounded by a host of existing and planned education, shopping and other facilities, it eventually will have road access to Caroline Springs
